Most navigation systems tell you which way you need to turn (left or right) but do not identify a particular lane to use for the turn (e.g., second lane from the right).

As you approach a series of turns, some navigation systems may provide spoken guidance to help you anticipate your next turn. For example:

  • “turn left, then turn right “
  • “turn left, then stay in the right lane”

Turn direction is usually enough for most intersections and freeway on-ramps, but for complex interchanges you’ll probably need to look for road signs that show exactly which lane needs to be used.
